Suffering from Headaches? Try These Simple Techniques to Get Relief

Everyone has experienced a headache at some point in their lives, which can be the result of a whole variety of things.

Stress, fatigues, eyestrain, drugs, poor nutrition, low blood sugar, low oxygen levels, poor posture, etc. are all causes of headaches. Basically anything that can cause you stress in any way shape or form can potentially cause a headache.

Like most signals of pain that you feel, it is your body trying to tell you that something isn’t right. Sometimes taking an aspirin is enough but all you are doing is masking the pain while not addressing the problem, ensuring that your headache will return at some point or another.

There are many different types of headaches, in fact there are over 100 different classifications. Fortunately there are many methods you can employ to help you permanently get rid of those annoying headaches.

  1. Go to Physical Therapy or Chiropractor

Many people today work in the service industry where they are sitting at a desk all day staring at a computer screen. This not only puts a lot of pressure on our lower backs from sitting down, but also puts strain on our necks as well.

Being in this unnatural position for prolonged periods of time causes our muscles in our necks to tense up which can restrict blood flow to our head and brain, thus causing headaches.

In an even worse case scenario the patients spine may be misaligned which causes even more stress and intense headaches as well.

Going to the chiropractor to get a spinal adjustment can relieve the stress and thus headaches the patient is suffering. If the patient is suffering from prolonged neck pain and headaches, a physical therapist can use other techniques like electrotherapy.

  1. Stay Hydrated Throughout the Day

Being dehydrated has a duel effect on the ability to create migraines and severe headaches. First the blood vessels feeding in to the brain itself supplying it with the necessary oxygen and other nutrients are constricted due to the decreased pressure caused by dehydration.

Second, the muscles themselves lose water content as a result of dehydration, which causes them to stiffen up which can lead to headaches as well.

Not only do most people who live in the United States not drink enough water, they tend to drink too many caffeinated drinks on top of that, amplifying the effects of dehydration.

Studies have shown that dehydration alone can cause headaches and that there are even specific types of headaches that are exclusively causes by dehydration. Make sure you are drinking the equivalent of 6-8 glasses of water daily.

  1. Stretch and Exercise Frequently

As mentioned earlier, Americans especially spend too much time sitting down during the day. Between work and being a couch potato it really is no surprise why the posture of many people is horrible.

Sitting down in these positions hovering over a computer is not a natural position for the body to be in, and thus we experience pain and discomfort as a result.

If you work in an office or sit in a chair all day, try to get up periodically and walk around or do some stretches. Ideally you want to get up and move around every half hour to an hour. Getting up and moving around puts us in a different posture which allows our strained lower backs and necks some needed relief.

If you have the time or inclination to do so, joining a meditation class like yoga or something similar is beneficial in helping to further reduce the stress and pain from the built up tension resulting from sitting all day.

  1. Try Natural Remedies and Supplements

If you’re not all about exercise and don’t want to take the time to go to the doctor, a natural supplement is the best option for you.

You are going to want to find something that promotes relaxation, that reduces the stress of your tense muscles on your skeletal system, a major cause of headaches.

A product like Relax Holy Basil by Men’s Healthy Lifestyle is a safe effective supplement that can help you reduce your frequency and duration of headaches as well.
